Amma's Full Moon (Pournami) Message - 17.07.2008

"Om Sarva Mangala Mangalye,

Shive Sarvatha Shaadhike,

Sharanye Triambake Gowri,

Narayani Namostute"

Shastras (scriptures) tell us that even when one individual has bhakthi, it will bring welfare to everyone in the world. Now, many claim or seem to possess bhakthi. Even then, there is no sign of widespread happiness enjoyed by everyone in the world. We find a lot of suffering amongst people in all parts of the world.

What then, is the reason for this? People do not have real bhakthi. The bhakthi they claim to have is driven by desires. They strive to achieve success in their lives. Success for them is measured in the materialistic sense. This success is short lived because materialistic achievements have a beginning but no end. You do not say enough even after you have become a very wealthy person. You go on working, striving and struggling for more and more wealth. There is no sense of satisfaction. You feel that you have not yet succeeded.

So you turn to some other means to achieve more wealth. You soon realize that human efforts have limitations and so now, you turn to God. You believe God will help you in this rat race. You develop bhakthi to ask more from God. You believe that, what you failed to gain through human effort can be gained through the help of Divine involvement/power. For this you develop Bhakthi. This form of bhakthi is motivated by one's desire and greed to have more materialistic gains.

One prays for the welfare of one's own self or for their children's health, wealth and happiness. In rare cases, one might even pray for his/her friend. Praying for the health and wealth of one's own society does not happen, so where does the question of praying for the welfare of the world occur? Can one call this bhakthi?

This is not real bhakthi. This form of bhakhti is incapable of bringing any good to the individual or to the welfare of the world. (God is not appreciate of this kind of Bhakthi that is self- centred). It is important that every individual think about this. One must try to develop real bhakthi, a bhakthi that is practised only for the welfare of mankind and the society.

If every individual develops real bhakthi and prays for the welfare of the world, then God grants this wish and brings about the welfare of the world. This in turn brings about the welfare of the individual or family. Performing pujas and yagams for the welfare of mankind and all creatures of this universe is what Amma does each day.

On this auspicious day Amma blesses that everyone be happy and comfortable.
